If you want something Italian, this is where to go. Actually, if you want anything Italian, this is where to go. Classic & quintessential. Lucca in the mission has been feeding our lucky souls ravioli, & all things Italian, forever & ever. This joint is an institution & you know it as soon as you walk in. Fresh pizza dough? It's here. Homemade pasta sauce? Got it. Fresh ravioli or cheese tortellini? Check & check. Hungry? You can order a sandwich. Bottle of Fernet? Which variety? Of course, they're here. Basically, Lucca is just bomb.com for all things Italian. And the service rocks too. My last visit, I came in for the pizza dough. I felt it was time to stop doing that Boboli crap & graduate to the real deal. Unless you make it yourself from scratch, this is the best. And at just $3 bucks, it's cheaper than Boboli. All that homemade love & affordable too?! Done & done. Check out the ceiling. It's Italy. Old school & family. 5 stars.

This place is awesome. The guys who work here are nice, and helpful. It's insanity every time I go though... so definitely try to avoid the typical shopping hours. We get their pizza kit (dough, cheese, sauce) and then bake at home. It's great, but might be a little pricey (comes in around $12 for a 14 inch deep dish).

Gosh, my husband & I LOVE this place! They have a massive selection of meats, canned sardines, cheeses & pasta! What's not to love!?!?! This is a great place to go if you want to pick up a quick fresh or dry pasta for dinner, or to picck a personalized charcuterie platter. We loved their ham, smoked prosciutto, & wine salami. They have a large variety of food items imported from Italy, & a little wine isle. Be prepared to wait a little bit if you're ordering from the deli but it will be worth it!

$8 for a meaty tasty sandwich. Yum! The staffs were super friendly. They carry all type of pasta, not to mention the freshly made ravioli and meat sauce. Free parking lot in the heart of Mission. Definitely a plus.

Why go anywhere else when you can get home-made (and fresh) pasta, sauces, bread, meats and cheese all in one place. Staff are always in great attitude and ready to help. Sandwich - basically build your own by choosing your own deli meats, cheese, and other ingredients. Delicious and fairly priced (around $7 with 3 deli meats, cheese and pesto sauce) Love that they still use a classic cash register.

Best place ever. We made pizza with all their ingredients (dough, sauce, cheese, pancetta, sausage, and pesto). It was incredible and very affordable. Ordering can be a little intimidating, but hang it there. It's worth it. Also try their sandwiches, but make sure to get something with moisture to balance out the dryness of the meat and bread. They make 'em real old school. I prefer ricotta and pesto with any combo of meet on Dutch crunch. You won't be disappointed.

The best ravioli in SF, hands down! I've been frequenting for several years, and now out-of-town guests are getting to taste, to their delight. Two flats of their meat ravioli and a quart of their awesome meat sauce will feed six for about $28. Add a half loaf of their garlic/French bread, some fresh parmesan cheese and you'll be amazed - and a return customer, guaranteed. The guys behind the counter are top notch, old school San Francisco, and always make your visit a memorable one. Don't wait: check it out!

One of the many, many reasons I don't think I can ever leave the Mission. Amazing house-made ravioli, pastas, and sauces (particularly love the pesto). A huge variety of authentic Italian meats and cheeses, both fresh and dried. A well-curated selection of Italian olive oils. (Don't know which you need? Just ask!) Excellent focaccia. The best olives I've had outside of Italy. There is plenty of Italian & local red wine to choose from appropriate for pairing with Italian food, but also don't miss the nice selection of amari and other Italian liqueurs on the shelf behind the register. (For a while, they had the cheapest Green Chartreuse in the city. It's still pretty reasonable.) Oh, and they'll also make you a tasty sandwich with a few slices of meat & cheese & a little sauce of your choice (no veggies, don't ask). And if you find yourself suffering from decision paralysis, just ask & they're happy to throw something delicious together for you.

You're go to place for anything Italian. Incredible selection of meat, cheese and Italian wine. Dedicated parking lot. Friendly staff. I do believe it's the best little Italian market in the City. :0) Ciao!

If you up for some cooking fun this is the place to be to get all your ingredients. You will be pleasantly surprised by the large and diverse selection of Italian goods that they have in store. (No fresh ingredients though :( ) Better yet, if you are hungry and want a quick bite definitely get a sandwich to go for only $5. Your choice of bread, cheese, and meats from a large selection of delectable hams and salami. Perfect if you are just wondering down the mission on a sunny day and find yourself to be a tad bit hungry. :) A breakdown of points worth noting: -$5 deli sandwich -Super helpful and friendly shop employees (Seemed Italian) men behind the deli counter to help out if you have any questions -Awesome map of Italy on the shop's ceiling (wish I took a picture of it, but you should go see it for yourself!) Stop by!

Absolutely love this place! The fellas are flirtatious, generous and offer service with a smile and a laugh. Don't just come here for the flattery though, come for their selection of Italian meats, cheeses, olives and pasta. Personally I come for the dough. It simply makes THE most magnificent pizza! Need sauce for your pizza, don't worry they have everything ready for you. Grab a container of the shredded 4 cheese mix, then a small container of the tomato pizza sauce. Select one or two of their dried sausage, or get the spicy pepperoni and you're ready to rock & roll! Having a picnic and want to make sandwiches instead of pizza? No problem! They offer salami, ham, prosciutto and pate in one cabinet. While in the other are Provolone, Swiss, Brie, Gouda and Mascarpone. And yes, fresh bread is available to complete the package. Check the few aisles for a wide selection of imported sundries. Olives, olive oils, mustards, cookies, chips, capers, sun-dried tomatoes, wine and vinegars. Lucca's is truly a one-stop shop for your pizza party or picnic adventure.

I've never been very handy in the kitchen - truth be told, I'm such a bad cook that I once food-poisoned a date (though not intentionally, of course). I've lived in the Mission for almost 25 years, and it was at one fateful dinner party very early on that a certain Italian guest of mine commented rather wryly after dinner: "Where'd you buy the pasta noodles? Builder's Emporium?". Then he told me about Lucca Ravioli Company and I have to say, they have really saved me ever since. Now whenever someone comes over and expects there to be food on the table, Lucca is my go-to for supplies - they make me look good! A little freshly-made spinach fettuccine (you can watch them making it in the window), some house-made Marinara, a nice loaf of bread, some Limoncello to pour over ice cream for dessert and, bam! Dinner's on the table. I count on Lucca for everyday supplies too. I think I've been walking in there every couple of weeks for maybe twenty years now for a nice big bottle of vanilla syrup; they sell every flavor of the rainbow for the incredibly reasonable price of $6 a bottle. I pour it over yogurt, put it in applesauce and perk up my coffee every morning with this wonderful treat. Lucca definitely has the class of an old-world deli, with a beautiful map of Italy painted on the ceiling so you can educate yourself on the provinces while you wait in line. Not that I've done that, I'm just making suggestions. This is the kind of place you can take even out-of-town East Coast relatives who think there are no good delis on the West Coast and only they know of the best deli that ever was - they will be impressed once they get inside and stop talking your ear off. Bonafide Italians love Lucca too because, after all, it's a real Italian deli. With such likability, you can expect to have a few people in front of you. But the guys who work there are so efficient and together, they will have you taken care of in no time. Sometimes all the recent changes in the neighborhood bum me out because I think that not so many businesses have the class and kindness that Lucca has. It warms my heart to know they're still around - I'm really grateful for that. These guys are true sweethearts. They have a real camaraderie with each other and the customers and always make me laugh. I wonder how they can be in such good moods even when it's crowded and certain customers get cranky and they have to work so hard. But they are always nice - always. In over twenty years, they have never failed to make me feel welcome and at home. How many businesses can you say that about? So thank you, guys. You're the best. It's so nice to see a business like this getting all the praise it so richly deserves.

Absolutely thee best deli in San Francisco! Very old school Italian. I could go on & on about their products but this is a deli you MUST try yourself to believe! Steller meats, cheeses, sauces and fresh pasta I cannot wait till November when they make fresh, daily homemade turkey raveroli's. To die for!!! A must try!

Lucca Ravioli is just down the block from our house, and it's a perfect place to go to for Italian meats, olives and homemade ravioli. Go during the week because the place fills up with tourists on the weekend.

HELLO, Italy! Fresh, homemade pasta, cured meats, and plenty of Italian imports, Lucca has been a weekly staple in our household! A mozzarella, sun dried tomato, peso, and proscuitto sandwich for $6! Delicious and reasonable. Woo hoo!

  • El B.

I go here for the fresh pasta, the deli (fantastic), Costeaux bread, biscotti, salt cod, and personalized service. Yes, you will need to get a number and wait for it to be called before any purchase. However, that means you will get an employee (probably family member) that will help you get whatever you need, give cooking advice, and maybe tell you a joke. You will leave with something that smells amazing ( and will taste amazing later) and I can guarantee you'll be in a good mood.

    (5)
  • Jake A.

Oh my god the line is absurd. Come here only if you wanna talk about everything under the sun except what you order is and when it will be ready. The wait is only charming if you literally have nothing better to do with your life and appreciate watching someone lethargically and dismissively do everything except serve you. Not old school. Martin is especially slow

Homemade pizzas can oftentimes be a bucketful of meh, a amalgamation of subpar pre-packages goods to shave off a few pennies. However, Lucca's pre-made pizza dough and sauce rivals that of pizzerias. It's funny -- the ingredient list simply lists "flour, olive oil" and a few other basic staples, but it comes out big and fluffy. The tomato sauce is real fresh too -- thick and chunky without being watery. I'll definitely be making pizza runs here.

Came here to get sandwiches and raviolis....Man, the sandwiches are massive and so BOMB.COM their fresh ravioli excellent, it was eaten in 1 sitting by my 14 year old who was left asking for more...the prosciutto was on point wrapped on some honeydew. I absolutely give this place 2 thumbs up!

A taste of Italy. That's what I get when entering Lucca ravioli company. The store is great. It has such character. From the workers in their butcher type outfits with white caps, to the salamis hanging above. It's such an inviting feeling being inside. I love the selection of cheeses they have. You name it they pretty much have it. And the meats as well! Fabulous. But what's really great is the fresh house made ravioli! Heavens to Betsy! So fresh and tasty! I took home a box of spinach ravioli and it was divine. One of my favorite stores to go to in the city

  • Karen F.

All Italian delis smell delicious. The important thing is: How's their ravioli? Most of them fail that test. Lucca's meat ravioli are perfect. The meat sauce is delicious as well, and coming from a family of talented Italian-American cooks, I'm fussy about that. But I think the most heavenly part of Lucca Ravioli Company is their tagliarini, fresh, very thin, narrow noodles that cook in just a minute or two. Exquisite, they just melt in the mouth. I found the service very helpful and even playful. But I'd drive an hour for their ravioli and tagliarini even if it weren't.

Working in Italian restaurants for as long as I have and you'll come to fall in love with this place. One of the best Italian delicatessens in the city also has a wide array of Italian favorite like paper thin slices of meats, cheeses worthy of praise and even fresh pasta made everyday. I've bought a large loaf of garlic bread here before. When it was time for dinner, I decided to heat some up in the microwave. What resulted was about 15 minutes of cleaning in my microwave. Tasted great, but be prepared for enough fat to clog even the most veteran of eater's arteries. The meat sauce here wasn't a favorite at a recent dinner I prepared. The sauce was to tart for my little cousins, but they loved the fresh pasta here so I had to improvise and create a cream sauce instead. Overall, this place has quality food, but might not be for everyone. Try everything that looks interesting at least once and form your opinion from there. I know I have and I'll be back here for a long time.

I think I had a bad sandwich experience, which taints my review a bit. I was also nursing a hangover and had just walked in the rain with my crazy friend, who then suggested I get the worst possible sandwich for a wet, tired, hungover girl: Prosciutto with pesto ricotta. It was like a slippery, slimy mess, just an example of his craziness. The bread was good though, I will say that. They may want to get a sandwich board to make things easier on us peasants who don't know exactly what we want - but know that it consists of soft bread, cheese, and salty meat. No veggies, so don't come here looking for a hummus with cucumber sandwich. Their Foccacia bread is really really good, I picked at a loaf for about an hour at a friend's dinner party once, and wished I could have just taken it home and called it a night. My roommate often gets their dough and makes a pizza at home. Lucca's does have a cool vibe: all the guys who work here are older men and they such a fun rapport among each other. It would have been funnier if I was not suffering, but maybe next time will be better.

I've stopped in for meats and cheese, and it's always crowded, but efficient. The last time I was here, my friend needed a a bunch of meat and cheese for a solemn get together. She just asked them to put a platter together for 20 people, using whatever they thought was best. They made a lovely platter very quickly, and for a very reasonable price. The people at the gathering loved everything. I know where I'll be going the next time I need a deli platter.

If you guys want to close at 5:55, then change that on Yelp and Google. I just needed to pick up some pasta sauce and it's really disappointing that I live on the block and attempt to shop at local businesses but must cater to that businesses needs. I didn't appreciate it. Most of the stuff here is dramatically over priced and really is not authentic... or at least, you can get the same stuff at foodsco for half the price minus the funny hats and garlic decorations. You get a number and the guys yell at you and are generally disrespectful. Thanks again San Francisco!

I love this place for getting authentic italian ingredients . They have prosciutto de Parma not domestic like you see at a lot stores. The sopressata is amazing and super spicy!! It's so delicious and addictive can't just have one!! Another thing is their fresh made ravioli and so soft and the fillings are to die for!

Great local wog shop. Has everything that you could need from fresh pasta to cold meats to cheese to canned products and wine. Always busy and its a pretty tight space in the shop. The gents serving are always very friendly. Well priced products. Great lunchtime panini too. Onion is the fresh pasta is a little gluggy when cooked, but that is just being really picky...

Honestly - I am a meatball snob and I can make much better turkey meatballs. They needed less breadcrumbs and garlic and something exciting in the sauce, maybe some red wine.

I planned to go to Stern Grove for a Sunday concert outside so I decided to stop by to see what kind of salami I could buy to eat with bread sticks and cheese. I asked the guy behind the counter for recommendations as they have an extensive selection of salami and sausage. They will happily give you samples to ensure that you purchase the ones you want.

If you are looking for a homemade italian dinner (that you didn't have to slave over) - this is the spot! Super legit fresh pasta and sauces, and really nice/authentic people that work behind the counter.

I love this deli. Take a number, wait for the butcher to call you, and peruse the pasta sauces and wine while you wait. Their frozen spinach ravioli, fresh spinach fettuccine, hot Italian sausage, and salami are incredible. I haven't tried any of the cheeses. I didn't care for their homemade meat sauce (a little too acidic), but I have been here twice and will come again. It is a gem in this neighborhood.

Warm and friendly service, incredibly delicious fresh pasta, reasonable prices. I'm a particular fan of their holiday ravioli and garlic bread. They carry a great variety of cheeses, meats, pastas, sauces, and wine. I haven't tried it, but apparently they cater. I only wish they stayed open a little later!

I was in the neighborhood and in need of a couple supplies. I stopped in and checked out Lucca on my lunch break. I was actually looking for Arborio rice, which isn't as easy as it seems. Most grocers don't carry it and for Italian products, you have to go somewhere that has the real deal. I bought a big box since I'll be making some risotto soon. My guy and I have been staying in lately and making different dinner themed nights. Pizza Night is one of our favorites, so I bought Lucca's premade dough for $3, the fresh pesto $4 and a bag of shredded four cheese blend for $4. Our pizza was amazing, the dough was fluffy yet had a crisp to it. And since I grew up on the raviolis from Lucca, so I snagged a box of the seasonal pumpkin raviolis to bring home. I have these in the freezer for now, which makes for an excellent last minute dinner.

First off, I grew up working in a deli, for about 10 years. I've worked at a handful of delis all VERY similar to Lucca, so I may be a little biased and critical. Okay, there are things I like about this place, and things I don't like. Let's start with the good. It's a charming little shop. Full on with the salami and prosciutto hanging from the ceiling, and the meats and cheeses on display, and the take a number system, all signs of a good deli that's the real deal. Which Lucca definitely is. The meat selection is stellar, all the choice meats, and even the weird ones that you would expect to find in a place like this. Same can be said of the cheese. Staff is nice enough, considering working at a deli seems to lend itself to a particularly salty breed of staff...I speak from experience. Here's some things I'm not pumped on. I ordered a salami and cheddar on hard sour. The bread that I got, was not sourdough. The crust of sourdough, should be dark, bubbly, tough and chewy. This bread was floury, flakey, and not at all sour. It was more of a stale sweet roll. It was however, hard, which is cool, because I like hard bread. It wasn't bad bread, it just wasn't sourdough. The salami was molinari, which is excellent and the cheese was great as well. However, the sandwich came with nothing on it. When I say nothing, I mean nothing, no pickles, no spread (they gave me packets), no tomatoes, no onions, no lettuce. They didn't even cut it in half, it was 2 pices of bread, salami, and cheese. Dry as a bone. Maybe they have an ordering system where you need to specify that you want stuff on the sandwich and to have it cut, but I just found it to be extremely bizarre. I took it home, dressed it up with some condiments, and ate the hell out it, and it was great. Would I go back? Probably for specific items like meats, ravioli, or cheese, but not for a sandwich.

Out-and-out gem of a little shop! It's usually crowded, so upon entering, you take a number, and then decide what to get while you're waiting to be called. The line moves quickly, and the guys who work there are always nice (unlike the 24th St. Cheese Shop). No one tries to rush you, and based on your needs, they are very good at recommending different cheeses and giving you a sample to try. If you tell them you want a particular cheese to serve that night, they don't try to sell you a cheese that's not even close to being ripe. (Are you listening, 24th St. Cheese Shop?!) In addition to great cheeses and cured meats, they have literally everything you need to make a fantastic Italian dinner. Their homemade sauces, pastas, and pizza dough are all fantastic. Even if you're running in for just one thing, you'd be short-changing yourself if you didn't take a good look around for future reference because it's amazing what they are able to pack into this small yet well organized and tidy space. If I had to make a tiny suggestion, I would say PLEASE consider opening on Sundays! People need to eat and entertain every day, not just Monday through Saturday. Lucca Ravioli Company, don't go changin'! We love you just the way you are! (OK, except for the Sunday thing.)

Ok - very hectic the day I went, 2 days before Christmas. You grab a # right away, then wait or browse around (if there's room). I was 17 and they were calling 70 something! It was about a 20min wait. I was pretty overwhelmed with the process and decision making, but luckily a regular assisted me. They have frozen ravioli, spinach ravioli and cheese ravioli (54 pieces each box) in the freezer. The meat ravioli and "holiday" ravioli (turkey, beef, and spices) were behind the counter and fresh made, also in a box of 54. Price ranges from $7-$8. I really liked the meat raviolis, the non-meat ones were just ok to me. I got the meat sauce in the fridge, big container, for the ravioli. The worker suggested 4 boxes to one big container, but I like it more saucey so I prefer 1/3 container to 1 box. Sauce was $7/$7.50 - so worth it and its goooood. So, that's what I learned and I hope it helps someone! Oh, there's a parking lot next door for Lucca customers, but I'm sure it's always filled. Also, buy plenty of sauce and ravioli for freezing to avoid another trip!

You have to get the pepperoni, it is super tasty and only $4. If you want to try a very different and Italian soda try the Chinotto. The store is super crowded and very overwhelming. There not much of a chance to look around the store since there are so many people in the way. I did not even see that they had Burrata until I had already checked out and left. I was not about to stand in line to get a ticket to wait for it out to of the cheese case. The people behind the counter was super friendly and rounded down the prices on the meats and cheeses that were cut. I think this is a super nice gesture. I would come back here, but make sure that I did a little more research and had a specific game plan. It is not for browsing. What did I learn today? What your elbows when you turn in a crowded store. I laid the smack down to a little girl behind me. Good thing she belonged to me.

I usually love this place. Love their sandwiches, ravioli & fresh pesto...really fresh and not super pricey. It's usually crazy busy in here, you have to take a number & order fast. Service is always a bit snippy. Mind you, if I was a man forced to wear a little paper hat everyday, I'd probably be rude myself. This evening I was strolling along Valencia and saw the shop was open. I had no idea what time it was...and was already trying to decide beforehand...ravioli or tortellini? A few customers were just leaving and I was about to be the only person inside. The moment I walked over the threshold, a very eager (paper hat wearing) guy asks me right away if he can help me. I smile and say no thank you. I quickly walk over to the other end of the case. As I am checking out the tortellini, the same guy nags again, 'So..can I get anything from the case? We close in four minutes.'' I say, 'okay!' When suddenly his co-worker buddy says to me, 'Aw he's like...get the fwok out!' Then started singing 'Carwash' while pushing a cart into the back. Uhhh seriously? I was only in there for maybe 2 minutes! Now I can totally empathize, as I hate it when people want to linger as I'm excited about leaving work. But there was a better way to handle that sitch. Dudes were super rude, inappropriate, and I walked out. Not that it matters, but I'm never coming back!

Sooooo - yeahhhhhh - I'm here to add to the accolades for the Pumpkin Ravioli only found here at Lucca Ravioli Company Cannot tell you how many times I've walked by Lucca & it was either closed or I was on a mission for something else & couldn't make the time to stop by - shame on me! Well, on this particular evening, the weather was fantastic & I was walking home, taking the longer route & had just saved a little worm from getting stepped on when karma paid me back tenfold! Lucca was open & I was at their doorstep!! Teeny little pillows of heaven! But pay attention when they tell you to cook those babies in salt. I'm not really a salt person but even I thought they were just a bit on the bland side & could have used a good dash of salty goodness Made a quick brown butter sage sauce & voila! Dinner was served! Aside from that - totally pumpkinny w/ no added spices or flavors to take away from the pure pumpkin-deliciousness, pasta was tender & cooked just right (per their instructions) I was 1 of the lucky ones, I guess, who didn't take a number. I walked back to the freezer case, grabbed my boxes of ravioli & walked right up to the counter to pay. The guys there were happy & joking around w/ each other & the patrons who came after me.....but I also saw those people making sure to take a number So for a 1st visit to Lucca & a few meals worth of pumpkin-goodness, have to say Props to you!

I come here every weekend for their deli meats, fresh ravioli, and sometimes get a sausage or 2. I also like their variety of high quality pasta sauces and their freshly made pasta. The selection of this store cannot be beat in terms of quality. The guys working behind the counter are pretty friendly and helped me find the right ingredients for my Tucson Bean Soup this past weekend!! It can be pretty busy and jam packed here. So be sure to take a number and pay attention when it's called!!

Helpful staff, great products and a superb location is why I'm giving this place 5 stars. When you go in, expect to grab a number for food at the deli - just in case. The staff was extremely helpful in recommending a cheese for me when I asked what I should pair with the Swiss chard I had bought (I ended up going with Aged Asiago as per the recommendation of Mike). He gave me a few tastes of a truffled cheese and a sheep milk cheese. Lucca Ravioli carries fresh pasta (gnocchi, fresh?! Yum), Italian wine and a good assortment of imported goods. They stay focused on Italian food and even maintain a healthy Italian balance in their hours (open Monday - Saturday, closed Sundays). Perfect place to get fresh, high quality ingredients - close to 22nd and Valencia - convenient to Bart.

Yummy. Yummy. Yummy. The servers behind the counter are sweet and cheerful and willing to let you try everything in the damn case if it helps you make up your mind. They have everything I need to re-create lunch at my grandparents house when I was a kid: many kinds of cheeses, cold cuts, pickled things and, if I'm a good girl, I get a square of torrone for dessert. ...and the ravioli! The ravioli are morsels from heaven filled with love.

Lucca Ravioli holds a special part of my heart. Whenever I want to make something with fresh pasta, I would always come here. It has all the italian goods that I would ever want. Keep these steps in mind and you would be golden 1. Grab a number if you want to get anything at all 2. Look around the store to see what you want 3. Oh look! Fresh linguine, tortellini(around $12/lb), and ravioli (ranging $7-8 a box). So many choices. Oooh, there are fresh pizza dough and 3 different kinds of sauces. Got to grab one of those 4. Is that my number being called? Yay! I have a number 5. Pick out some freshly sliced meat, such as salami or prosciutto and a wedge of cheese to go with that meet 6. Walk out with everything you need to make a delicious pizza or fantastic pasta (Remember to not overcook the suckers since they are fresh) PS. Look for their specials. I got some of their salami and wished that I bought more when I could. PPS. They are not open on Sunday :(

The best fresh ravioli in San Francisco. It's a little pricey, but well worth it. The sauces are also excellent.

Ordered lasagna trays for an event. Service at Luccas was excellent. But the lasagna trays were not a hit. The sauce wasn't good, the lasagna has some kind of smelly cheese in it so the room smelled quite strongly of it. As always things are a matter of individual taste but based on attendee comments I wouldn't buy again.

What else can you ask for in an Italian Market? Nice guys behind the counter at all times. Sandwiches are simple - meat and cheese, no produce, no frills, just delicious. Super old school cash register and marble counter. Dough, pesto, cheese and sausage for a home made pizza for $15? Yes please! Don't even get me started on their fresh pasta, momma mia! Way too close to my house and a parking lot to boot! Love you Lucca!

Cheese Ravioli, Cheese parm bread, and gourmet pepperoni/sausage. Oh my goddd it was unreal. Spent about $21 and got the parm bread to bake (only made a third of it tonight) , the cheese Ravioli which we made tonight, a sausage and a pepperoni (I have half the delicious pepperoni left!), a slice of delectable cheesecake, and mini gnocchi which I didn't make yet. It was the most delicious meal ever.. and for less than $8/serving (between two of us) since we didn't make nearly all of it!? Amazing! Will definitely be returning ASAP!

In desperate need of water, I walked into Lucca thinking it was more like a corner store rather than a small Italian market. Headed for the back cooler, I missed the big red number dispenser at the front door which inhibited by ability to get out of this place with any efficiency. While I was in the back of the store, I decided to pick up dinner so I got spinach ravioli from the freezer and walk up to the counter. I'm waiting, waiting, waiting. People are passing me, getting help from the butcher's and I'm wondering wth is going on? Then the guys behind the counter start yelling out numbers. I'm thinking "F#$%!" I just want this water! I get a number while certain people were getting service without numbers I noticed since I was hanging out so long. One of the employees asks me "what's wrong?". I say, "I just want this water!". Guy says "Did you get a number?". I laugh. I finally get my number called and get out. Totally my fault, but dang!! If I liked Italian food more, I would frequent this place. They have a good selection on wine! Just Grab A Number First before you shop!! :)

I was tempted to give this place 1 star... just to dissuade people from coming here! The line is crazy as is! But the staff is so nice, the product is so good, and the price is so right that I have to give it 5 starts. If I could give it 6 I would. I come here expressly for the pepperoni and the meats. I come by one a week, spend about 15 / 20 and I have enough tasty meats, cheeses, and bits and bites to make the best lunches. They have a pretty solid selection of dry goods as well. Take your time looking around. I always drop by here before a party to pick up some things. Here's a list of things you NEED to pick up: 1) A number - without this you will not get served. 2) The $4.00 Pepperoni 3) Any of the fresh pastas (the ravioli is amazing - and they have special holiday flavors). 4) Any of the deli meats - the prosciutto and the prosciutto-salami is amazing. 5) A number... seriously it's like right at the door. 6) Olives (so good) Go in sample, and find something you like. The employees are super nice, and they will be more than happy to help. Don't be afraid to ask them any question - they will have an answer.

The best place to go to for deli/ charcuterie plates! They have a very wide selection of cheeses and deli meats. The great thing about Lucca Ravioli is they sell the deli meats by sheets of paper, mix and match 2-3 varieties, you now have a perfect appetizer for a small group of people. I haven't tried their raviolis but it seems like everytime I go there boxes of raviolis just keep flying out the door. I need to grab one myself the next time I go there. Also, don't forget to try their breads, their focacias and pizzas are perfect for a simple meal paired with some greens (and wine). Plus one star for a great and cheerful staff!

Classic Deli. The meats, cheese. Ravioli, sauces and speciality Italian food are excellent. Reading some reviews it is the sandwiches that get blasted. I can see that, but part of it may be knowing what to order.

I'm not one to review based on service. I've had a nice sandwich from here. But today my boyfriend and I went to pick up food for dinner and I have never had such smug "service." We didn't get any sliced deli meat or anything that we thought required a number. So we stood for 15 minutes waiting to pay. They looked at us and continued to ring up other people. We finally asked for service and someone rang us up and said "next time time grab a number." It would have been nice to have been told that while we stood there... I get having to take a number but it wasn't intuitive in this case. When I mentioned this the guy just smiled. There are plenty of places that are willing to help customers without acting like they're doing you a service. I don't need the smugness.

came here for a chai latte. it was hot and they were very quick to serve us. you have to go the counter to order and then they bring your food order to your table. very cute decor, rustic feel with wooden tables and a wine bar. food looked good however we didn't eat there. i would go back to try the food. it was simple crepes and breakfast stuff with sandwiches too.

I have seriously considered moving to San Francisco...just so I can shop at Lucca's every single day. Hands down the best fresh ravioli I've ever had outside of Italy. Maybe anywhere. I won't mind trying it again to confirm. And don't even get me started on the delicious meats, cheeses, pickles, bread, and salad. When I die, I hope I go to foodie Heaven. If I do, I bet $100 it will look a lot like Lucca's.

Super fantastic fresh house made pasta. I got a pound of the tagliatari(?) and turned it into a super delicious carbonara that night! OMG the difference that fresh pasta can make. I'm happily addicted and hope to come back and buy some pumpkin ravioli!

When I lived in Florence, Italy, I fell in love with a particular deli cut called bresaola -- dry-cured lean beef sliced thin like prosciutto. When I came back to the states, I searched high and low for bresaola to no avail - until I came to Lucca. Now I live down the street from Lucca and can get bresaola whenever I want! The guys behind the counter at Lucca are super nice and patient, even if you have no idea what you are looking for or how much you want. You don't have to be a meat or cheese connoisseur to come into this shop - the guys behind the counter WILL help you out and give you good recommendations too. This place makes me nostalgic for all the goods I had in Italy -- they have so many great imports - the Perugina chocolate, baci chocolates, hard-to-find squid ink, high-quality pecorino you can grate over everything, that crusty, saltless Italian bread, and even authentic oil-packed tonno (tuna)! I love how down-to-earth this place is, especially in an area where there are a lot of gourmet food shops that overdo it a little and can be highly contrived. This place is all about the good, high quality ingredients, and you can put together a stellar and fairly inexpensive meal with all the ingredients you find here! (There isn't any produce though -- gotta go somewhere else for that!)

Mozzarella, pesto and Nero d'Avola--Oh My! Quality, efficiency and selection are the key words at this long time establishment. Do not come here hungry or you will leave with 10 lbs of cheese (or is that just me)? Ahhhh, good, fresh, amazing cheese, how I love you. ***Make sure to grab a number when you are GOOD and READY to grab a number. The other reviews will tell you to grab it when you first go in, but then if you want to look around for a bit, you will not be ready to pay and will inevitably end up waiting. SO...only grab a number if you only want deli items or are ready to pay ;)***

I've shopped here at least every other week for 25 years. It's a true italian market, I love the staff, the prepared foods are great. Good selection of cheeses and deli, Good fresh bread, very good selection of wines for a small market, Italian syrups. I cook a lot of authentic italian and I guess I'd have to head over to North Beach (where I used to live before Noe Valley) to get what they provide. Lucca can get busy, especially on the weekends, so a generous spirit and a little patience can make the most trying experience a great one.

The service was a little slow and when I got to the front of the lone they were fresh out of the meat raviolis. The spinach raviolis weren't bad though, just wish they would have had my first choice. Overall not bad just wanted this problem to be addressed and will be back in the future.

Okay, if the definition for good food is a line down the block...then Lucca is the place for you! If not, well, it is still good...you just have to go back when it isn't lunchtime. Lucca not only has fresh, handmade ravioli but they also have a whole assortment of Italian delights! The sauces are to die for, they have every deli meat & cheese you can think of, their wine selection is excellent and it has been owned by a San Francisco family since the 1920's. What's not to like!!

Love this place, though it's sometimes a madhouse overcrowded with shoppers. The guys are really helpful. So helpful that when I asked them about farro pasta (great stuff - nutty flavor and loaded with protein and fiber), they said they'd look into finding me some. So a month goes by and I get a call from Lucca and they've sourced it to a ship on it's way to America. The guy said the price on that pasta seemed high and he said he has a call into another supplier and will give me a call when he hears back. A couple weeks later, he called with a much better price and said it would be in in a few weeks. Anyway, that's just one example of them being willing to go the extra mile to help a customer. One other example, I cook a lot with San Marzano tomatoes and they aren't that easy to find, so I asked if I could buy a case and they said sure and gave me a discount of 10% or 20%, I can't recall. But I wasn't expecting that. They also have an excellent selection of fresh, ready-to-eat foods, including cheeses, pastas, salumi, and so on.

I recently went there to buy "00" grade flour for the purpose of making pizza, and some unbleached organic flour to make bread. While there I also got some crushed Italian tomatoes and a pepperoni stick. The place was so popular and busy that you need to take a number just to pay for your purchases even if you don't need help. While paying, the friendly counter man suggested I pick up some of their 4 cheese blend for my pizza, and it as very reasonably priced at $5 / 1 lb. I went home, made my pizza dough, and waited for it to rise overnight in the fridge. The next day I made the best pizza I've ever made. The cheese was flavorful as heck, and the finely ground flour made excellent dough.

Their ravioli are delicious and simple; nothing fancy, nothing missing. The meat sauce is, I am embarrassed to admit, better than my italian grandmother's. Their meat counter is well stocked with various salamis, pepperonis, coppas, sopresatas, even a few head-cheeses for the adventurous. Their pasta selection, both fresh and dried, is impressive, and the service is always friendly.

Saturday brunch? Skip the line at Boogaloo's and grab a picnic to-go at Lucca - perhaps the best Italian deli in the city. On weekends, expect a crowd and a line (though nothing as bad as the hour+ wait at Boogaloo's). The spicy copa, prosciutto, porchetta, various olives, fresh breads, and large spread of cheeses make for a perfect picnic or gift to bring to a dinner party. The only bummer: it's closed Sundays and doesn't stay open late on any night.

I'm not a good enough cook to really know how great this place probably is. What I do know is that they are always friendly, and despite how busy it may be, they answer questions and offer solutions or alternatives to your needs. Everything is excellent and you can easily find everything you need for a meal in one location.

My Name is Lucca I Live on the Corner of Valenciaaa Ok, so the 80's tune doesn't much fit, but let me tell you, I have no other word for this place than Gem. It is a GEM. The awning ensures that there's no mistake this place houses pasta. You walk in and it's like a pack rat opened a store of everything Italian. Signs boast that you can make your own pizza, they can even cook it for you, fresh pesto, fresh tomato sauce. But, we are all there for the ravs. Fresh spinach and cheese raviolis are made fresh daily and in flat boxes for you to rush right home with and consume way quicker than you ever thought humanly possible. Don't forget though, the frozen selection. Among them 3 cheese and my weakness; pumpkin. The pumpkin, in my eyes is made for frying and rolling in powdered sugar and either pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon. It's a ravioli dessert that is worth the trip to 1100 Valencia alone. Actually, made it's a toss up between the raviolis and the fresh foccacia. I have never had so light, such chewy, such crispy edged PERFECT foccacia. This is the standard of which all foccacia should be measured. We got the mushroom and the tomato with scallion and there was only 1/4 of that mushroom slab left by the time we got home. Courtesy of me. It was so delicious, there's just no other word for it. Olive oil, sauteed mushrooms and a hint of sea salt here and there. I was a fool for the foccacia. Fresh butter cookies are to the right just inside the door and easy to overlook, but you shouldn't. These are no dry tasteless rocks. The rasberry jam sandwich ones are truly a delight and they have the familiar round cookies topped with a dollop of chocolate. That's certainly not all she wrote. Cheesecake, all sorts of delecacies, fresh salamis and meats, cheeses, balsamics, olive oils and all manner of dried goods - if you're planning a feast or simply want a taste of home, Lucca's got the ticket.

I love this little place. Super fresh food and not too expensive. The pros out-weigh the cons but a few things to know are its a small place and its never been spacious when I go in. When you hear your number be quick to order, no time for being shy or timid. And last, don't take these guys too serious there pretty quick on the draw so don't forget to laugh.

I would only grocery shop at Lucca Ravioli Company if my body wouldn't collapse from a diet consisting solely of meat, cheese, and pasta. I imagine that this is what Italy feels like. Gorgeous selection of meat and cheese in the deli counter, fresh sauces in the fridge, canned fish and tomatoes that you won't find in Safeway... This place inspires me to perfect my carbonara and craft my own raviolis. The men behind the counter are friendly while professional, and give this place most of its charm. They are also nice to little girls that accidentally order too much headcheese.

i usually avoid places like this in the city because they are over rated and over priced. since i was in the area and it was getting close to lunch i gave it a shot. first i checked out all the different pastas and other italian staples. the prices were surprisingly not jacked up for a specialty store. the deli guy then asked if i needed something so i ordered a combo. at the register i was fully expecting to get raped for a deli sandwich and was shocked it was under 6 bucks! store is spotless, customer service great, stocked with authentic italian goods. a super pleasant experience after the gauntlet of the bart ride/homeless shelter i had to deal with to get there. i will be back!!

Dear eaters of all things Italian, I do want to love this place. It is so charming, the staff are helpful and they are stocked with all sorts of delicious goodies. However, I must say I bought their pesto and it tasted like lawn clippings. I looked at the ingredients and it was : sweet basil olive oil garlic cheese yeah yeah yeah but then no pine nuts?! The basil had no flavor at all, and it was missing a key flavor, that toasty nutty flavor that rounds out the taste of a good pesto. If they can fail on such a basic and easy sauce to prepare I dare not try and thing else they make in house. They have been in biz since 1925, but maybe they need to hit the books again for such an easy miss. Ciao Lucca...

The guys at Lucca are sweethearts. I truly feel for them as we all hungrily lurk at the counter, furtively clutching our number and jockeying for the best view of the goods. The deli is reasonably priced and I've always been happy with their quality. The pizza and ravioli rock!

Yum. I always get yummy charcuterie and cheeses and ravioli here! I love the old school "Little Italy" vibe. They also have foccacia fresh from Liguria Bakery --- no need to trek to North Beach for that!

my boyfriend and i actually just stumbled upon this place last minute because we were on sandwich-or-bust mode on our way to the beach. i actually felt like i was in italy (or some foreign country) because i had no idea how people were ordering their food without a menu to look at so words escaped me and so did questions as i didnt want to seem like the only person in the shop that didnt get the memo. apparently the confusion on my face and my meandering tipped off the clerk and he asked my boyfriend and me if we'd ever been there before. so it all actually turned out to be very straightforward. you pick a bread, meat(s), and cheese(s) and thats all you get. no condiments, nothing. that actually scared me a little bit as im more accustomed to lavish and creative sandwiches (like the ones from ike's place, little lucca, bonne sante...), but what really scared me was how much i enjoyed the simplicity of the artisan bread, high quality meats, and freshly sliced cheese. who knew it could be that easy?!

Suddenly, you go back in time and are transferred to a Italian (it also could pass as Spanish) store full of great deli at very reasonable prices. I can only speak for the authenticity of the Spanish things, and they are the real thing. Go!

For the longest time, I've wondered about this place. This place has to be good since it's been there for a long time. This observation is especially apt when considering all the changes Mission and Valencia has been through in recent years. After reading all the yelp reviews and having a co-worker try it, I finally relented and tried it for myself. I am glad I finally did. This place is cool: people are helpful, nice selection of Italian stuff, and ravioli are delicious. I only wish I had more time to look around. But since I was illegally parked and the store was closing, I had to hurry. Besides the pasta, the deli selection of meats and cheeses looked amazing. I kept thinking this is the kind of store I'd only find in NYC. Can't wait to go back for more.

I've only been to this place once but this place made my day. Ive been to like asian and fish markets, safeways and small other markets to search for squid ink but they do not have it. Turns out they have it here!! And i only live 4 block away from this place, gosh but it was so worth it and i was able to make my pasta with squid ink sauce. I would love to go here again to check out the entire place!

Amazing pizza dough for PERFECT vegan pizza! My bf and I struggled with finding the right crust ... cuz you know, the CRUST is the most important thing! We tried Mom's Pizza Dough (available at Rainbow Grocery), we tried Trader Joe's pizza dough, we tried those frozen pre-made cornmeal crusts, but everything was just so-so. Next step, I was going to make my own pizza dough from scratch, which would be more effort than I wanted to spend ... AND THEN ... one fine day ... we spied the bags of freshly made pizza dough (all vegan ingredients) at Lucca. We took that bag home, rolled out the dough in our pizza pan; cooked it with all the toppings on our pizza stone, and ... whaddyaknow .... it came out PERFECT!!! I mean, amazing!!! We never have to spend $30 to get a pizza delivered again ... the LUCCA pizza dough makes it so easy to enjoy a pizzeria style pizza at home. We're now making vegan pizzas with Lucca pizza dough, tomato sauce, fresh basil, garlic, and other toppings; grated Daiya cheese from Rainbow Grocery is the finishing touch for homemade vegan pizza nirvana.

I come here at least twice a week for multiple items. I was never a fan of Italian food until I had the ravioli here. Their beef ravioli in their house made marinara sauce is delicious. I am getting hungry just writing about it. I love their selection of wines, cheeses, cold cuts. olive oils, and cookies. They also have a good selection of banquettes or sliced wheat or sourdough bread. best of all, everything here is fresh.

I was curious walking by this place. You can see them making fresh ravioli from the side window. I just came from a visit to Italy and going in made me feel like i never left. They had great hard to find italian imports like modena balsamic vinegar. The service was great. They let me sample all of the pecorino cheeses on hand without me even asking. The fresh made pastas were hard to resist too. I love pumpkin so had to get a box of pumpkin ravioli and a bit of white sauce. It was obvious they were just made. I love that the ravioli are small and bitesize. They tasted great! Glad this is close to home.

Fresh pasta and Italian food at good prices. You can get cheaper, but nothing that's cheaper will even comes close to Lucca's quality. Only downside is that if you don't know you're italian food, you might not know what to do. Its ok, they'll help you, but try going early afternoon to avoid lunch and pre-dinner crowd.

Lucca totally made my day. I invited friends over for dinner and I had no idea what to cook. I looked up some places in my hood and found Lucca Ravioli. I left the office a tad early to make the 6pm cut-off of closing time. Then I had a nervous feeling in my stomach that I was going to have to circle the blocks over and over looking for parking. But then I drove up and saw that they have customer parking! YES! In the Mission- customer parking- for that- I give them a solid 10 stars:) I walked in and grabbed a number and started browsing the store. I picked up freshly made pesto, spinach cheese tortellini and some parm cheese. Everything was delicious and was full of flavor. We'll so be going back. Just another little gem in the Mission.

Lucca's is the perfect stop to pick up lunch on a nice day at Dolores park. 10 bucks will get you a huge sandwich, macaroni salad, a delicious kosher pickle and a bottle of water. Follow these 3 steps when ordering. Grab a number when you walk in. Next pick your bread, meat & cheese. My favorite is A soft roll, prosciutto, spicy salami & fresh mozzarella. YUMMMMMM... No vegetables at this deli. They do offer however offer packets of mayo and mustard. I would also like to add for the all the pickles lovers 45 cents for a kosher, and 75 for a ginormous dill. Business is steady so have a little patience.

You can't really find a deli like this in the city... outside of North Beach anyway. And let's face it, for those of us that don't live in North Beach, it might as well be a far away town. 5 stars for the fresh-made raviolis and the tagliarini pasta. Anything after that is just icing on the cake. Focaccia pizzas, sauces, wines, italian snacks... just lock me in here and throw away the key. The guys at this place all know their Italiano eatins and are glad to be of help. They're not as intimidating/curt as a lot of other guys working counters in deli shops either. Whenever I purchase me up some pasta, they make it a point to tell me the best way to prepare it and you get the sense they are understandably nervous to trust their masterpieces in the hands of civilians. I wish their hours were a bit more workable with my schedule (so many sundays where I've so badly wanted them to be open), but fine art like this has to operate on its own timetable.

Yummmmmmmmmm. All of it. Yummmmmmm. And I love to trip out on the giant map of Italy on the ceiling while I wait for my number to be called. All kinds of great breads, Italian goodies, wines, and deli sandwiches, and pickled mushrooms to die for. (Or live for...that would be healthier.) And of course, incredible fresh ravioli and marinara made in-house. Soooo yummy. The other day I ordered a prosciutto and provolone sandwich on a sweet soft roll, with pesto.....a real treat at like 6.00 and I half of it did me right.

I felt like such a noob when I walked in. I completely missed the little ticket machine that deli's use to call their customers, and I walked around wide-eyed for at least 15 minutes checking out ingredients and brands that I wasn't used to seeing at my local Safeway. But I was excited to be there... fresh pastas, cheeses, meats & breads were everywhere. And what's more, I was treated very well by a patient and knowledgeable staff (I love asking for suggestions) that was in demand at that very moment... and who all had very little space to move around behind that counter :P I will definitely go back.

Great ravioli and pasta and all. But those sandwiches are amazing. Better than any other Lucca. Hot salami ("Joe Montana used to order that") hot coppa, provolone, maybe some smoked turkey and prosciutto on a hard roll... The Perfect Sandwich. On top of that, real, genuinely nice people work behind the counter. Pick up some focaccia and a San Pellegrino orange soda and you're set. Lucca rules.

OMG! Lucca provided food for our company holiday lunch, so I stopped on my way home to get ravioli + sauce for my husband's dinner (I was too full to eat more than salad!). Hubby LOVED the ravioli, and said, "We ought to do this more often." You better believe I'll be stopping by Lucca's en route home at least once a month from now on!

Hands down best place to get great pasta sauce, fresh ravioli, and amazing Parmesan. Oh! and sausages! For a quick meal get the above ingredients - mix together - plus pick up some vino and bread and you and your sweet one will be enjoying a savory meal. It's a bit intimidating at first, but pretend you know whats up and soon you'll be a regular!

Stopped in this little Italian grocery store on a random weekend to get a few specialty items, including homemade ravioli, canned crushed tomatoes, sweet Italian sausage, and grated Parmesan cheese. Here's my rundown on the place: Small, but the place is jam-packed with Italian goodies. Some items are way overpriced (especially the grated Parmesan cheese and barilla pasta), whereas others are more reasonably priced (e.g. the sweet Italian sausage). I found their homemade raviolis to be disappointingly small in size (I like my raviolis big and round, and these were tiny and sqaure), and a bit too eggy-tasting for my liking. I tried their sweet Italian sausage, however, and enjoyed the flavor much more than the brand I usually buy at Safeway. The Delallo brand canned crushed tomatoes were nothing to write home about for me. In summary, they have some good finds, whereas others are hit or miss. It's a great place to go, however, if you have a specific Italian specialty item in mind that you can't find elsewhere. I do think that their meats and cheeses are a good bet. I think I just am spoiled by the local Italian specialty stores that I used to frequent when I lived in Philadelphia. If you've never been to a place like this before, however, you will be delighted at the range of Italian products they offer, from olives to cookies to homemade pasta and sauces.

Just moved back to the neighborhood and was reminded of how lucky we are to live close to Lucca's again! No need to make a cross-town trip to North Beach. Lucca's has delicious charcuterie, cheeses, fresh pasta and antipasti, served up by a knowledgeable group of folks who seem to love their job. The place is small and filled to the brim with imported goodies. Some of the shelves could use dusting, but still, a fantastic Italian deli!

Veggie sandwich, yum yum! lots of pesto, mozzarella, sun-dried tomato, sigh..... complete with an Orangina and a slice of cheesecake. The service is great, the "boys" are always very helpful, always cheerful as well.

get a ticket when you enter. One of the liquor nerd's best kept secrets: this place has the best prices, by far, for Chartreuse and Absinthe. If you've got Chartreuse tastes on an Herbsaint's budget, go to Lucca. Bonus points also for selling China Masagli, invented and manufactured in Lucca, Italy. (would be 5 stars, but too damn crowded.)

no more trader joes pasta for 79 cents because you get the real deal over here. Fresh pasta! Everything you need to impress your Girl over here. for you single men they have pizza by the trey for 5 bucks. Its no roundtable but its fun stoner pizza. my only problem is the deli. The have no produce and mustard and mayo is on the side. I feel like I am eating a little kid sandwhich. They say its the real italian way but i think they just dont wanna bother with the produce. The soft sour roll is the best. Fresh pasta sucks that they are closed on sundays

For me, Lucca's is mostly an Italian deli that serves up tasty tasty sandwiches to take to the park. They also have a salad bar, fresh pizza dough to take home and make your own pizza (perhaps, with their pesto?), pandoro bread for excellent dipping in coffee purposes, and Italian wines. Solid.

Love this shop. Wish they stayed open until 7 for those of us who sometimes work late, but it is what it is. Always friendly and helpful. Let you taste everything. Never hurry you. Have great meats and cheeses, pastas, pizza dough, and everything else Italy you could want.

I frequent the City College's Mission Campus which right across the street from this place. Every time I'm on campus, I tell myself I'm going to try that place one day. And finally today was that day. I finally went into Lucca's and I was glad that I did. I pulled a number and happily waited for my number to be called. I watched other patrons order some ravioli with sauce and some order prosciutto until finally my number was called. Since it was my first time, I asked the gentlemen who was helping me what he suggested I get. So answered a small series of questions and then presumed to suggest that I get one of their sandwiches. So I did just that. I ended up ordering a veggie sandwich on a soft roll. OMG! It was too die for. Yummy pesto spread on the soft roll with pieces of sun-dried tomatoes topped with mozzarella. Orgasmic. I also order a "combo" which has cheese, ham and salami. Served plain with condiments on the side. He said his sandwich was "tasty" and we definitely will go back and probably try the ravioli which I hear is to fantastic. I look forward to many more adventures across the street at Lucca's. *Evviva*

GREAT Products! FRESH Eats! FRIENDLY Service! FREE PARKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, if the free parking in the city didn't get your attention, the food will. They carry a wide selection of wines, cheeses, breads, deli meats, fresh pasta, fresh marinara sauce, fresh alfredo sauce, chocolates, olive oils, canned tomatoes, canned sardines, fresh olives, cheesecake..........ok, you get the point. This place rocks!

If my husband keeps stocking our fridge with cute little white butcher paper wrapped packages filled with perfectly laid out rows of amazing paper-thin slices of salamis and prosciuttos... we just may turn into cured meats whores. It's a damn good thing Dittmer's is all the way over in Walnut Creek. Also - fantastic sandwiches. Great choice to take on a hike (i.e., they're sturdy). Turkey and cheese with pesto on that hard crunchy bread - NOT Dutch crunch - for whatever messed up reason, Dutch crunch is soft not crunchy... get the hard sourdough and you are in sandwich heaven Update: I've now also tried some of their fresh pasta and oh my. I'm not even a huge pasta fan but this simple bowl of meat tortellini (with a homemade tomato sauce) was fabulous.

  • Lynda N.

I try to leave work before 6pm just to make it to Lucca for fresh pasta. Fresh cheese tortellini is my favorite! I always buy about a 1lb then make my own marinara sauce from canned tomato sauce and herbs. Yuuum! They also have a variety of cheeses and deli meats I have yet to try. Luckily, it's only 3 blocks from home! Please be around forever, so I can work my way through all of the cheeses, meats, and fresh pasta.

This place is the best.... I went because I heard about the ravioli (they are awsome), but kept coming back because of the prepared pesto, pancheta, and great selection of olive oils. In addition to the friendly men behind the deli, selections of pastas and other great things from Italy. Can't beat is anywhere else in the city.

Alright I am the 150th to review this place so short review. They absolutely deserve 5 stars. I wish there were more shops like Lucca. The service is great, everything they sell is authentic. Here are my favorites: Tortelini, ravioli (of course), Pesto sauce, Rosemary Ham, freshly sliced prosciutto di Parma (a must), Dolce di leche, fresh mozzarella.

    (5)
  • Haz O.

Their selection of pasta is INSANE, but their sandwiches are pretty bland, expensive to boot. I pay $6 and all I get is meat & cheese? C'mon, I live in SF!

Lucca is a time capsule of a food emporium, a place that's stepped right out of the 1950's, where smart young men in crisp white caps serve up Italian-American style ravioli, amazing cured meats, flavorful focaccia, and perfect cheese. Naturally, the ravioli is fresh and phenomenal. They also get five stars for having a huge selection of dried pastas - I had despaired of ever finding my personal favorite shape for mac 'n cheese dishes, cavatappi (a wide-ish spiral tube), but they had it! This place makes me thoroughly pleased to be a Sicilian-by-decent (and they even commented on my last name as I paid with my debit card).

    (5)
  • Bobby P.

The ravioli's from Lucca are famous for a reason. This place is the real deal. The deli meats and cheese's are some of the best I have had this side of Italy. My family has been coming here for as long as I can remember, and it is one tradition I plan on keeping,

    (4)
  • Mister K.

Everything about this place is great. Ravioli is wonderful, but don't overcook it. Good sauces. The sandwiches are served plain - they give you little packets of standard issue mustard and mayo. But...the bread is fresh and fantastic, and the salami in particular is so good that you almost don't want to ruin it with the mayo and mustard. Better yet, go to a nearby produce store and buy a good tomato to eat with it. The people behind the counter are friendly and patient. Can't think of a bad thing to say about this place. May it stay the same forever!

Lucca brings me back to being a wee little girl wandering around my favorite philadelphia little italy shop Claudios. This plce is one of my favorite places to wander into - It has all sorts of fresh cheese, italian canned items, fresh bread, oils, vinegars and don't forget the amazing ravioli. They usually have some sort of specials (I got some good sherry vinegar from spain for two bucks yesterday!). The older guys who work there are friendly, helpful and I love their sly way of checking out attractive women - hilarious. Get yourself a pound of ravioli (meat fresh daily, spinach and cheese are frozen) and one of their sauces, or make your own - I like olive oil, dash of truffle oil and bit of garlic and some fresh herbs... yum. Oh - and as I was reminded twice yesterday, keep that frozen ravioli in the freezer until your water is boiling, otherwise it will fall to pieces.

I came in here hoping to snag my frozen empanada wrappers and peace on out of there, but I stayed a good 15 minutes just staring at the hustle and bustle of the business. It's a small lil deli with tight aisles stocked with evoo, imported Italian wine, olives, capers, and numerous other Italian delights. And it was packed to the max, Jack! They require you to take a ticket and wait your turn only because this place is that poppin'! They've got a gorgeous selection of cured meats, cheese, olives, fresh made pasta (including ravioli which I plan on trying), and bread. The one stop shop for a perfect picnic. And the service, impeccable! There were at least 4-5 clerks helping out the crowd and all so polite and cordial. I didn't grab a ticket only because I just wanted my 2 frozen items, and they immediately asked me to step on up so they could let me go on my merry way. I paid, but I lingered around to see the smiling patrons and what I should get for future visits. There were other n00bs like me who didn't know what to pick from their vast selections and the staff was so helpful, recommending favorite picks and the best choice for their soon-to-be special meal with their loved ones. Don't forget to look up. They've got a very cool map of Italy painted on their ceiling.

This place has always rocked. THE best place to get olive oil, fresh made ravioli AND cheap italian table wine. They have other amazing things like cheeses, meats and sauces as well but the above is why they are unique, excel and why you must go there.

When my parents took me here as a little the girl the mustached guys behind the counter would prop me on the counter and give me a giant breadstick to nibble on while my parents ransacked the place. Now the place is way too crowded for that (and I doubt people would look kindly on a grown woman hanging out on the counter). Walk in and let the packed deli counters, Italian imports, and fresh pasta and sauces whisk you away to the Italian countryside. The meats and cheese are fresh and relatively less expensive than other delis, especially considering the quality. My personal favorite is their cheese ravioli with their fresh pesto sauce. Also, make sure you grab a couple boxes of their special holiday ravioli when it comes out around November. They go fast and it's worth it to stock up and hide some boxes in the back of the freezer. Just remember to grab a number right when you walk in!

Lovely boys in lovely uniforms who remember your name selling lovely cheeses/antipasti/legendary fresh pasta/olive oils/balsamics and loads of tins/jars of salty and preserved goodies as well as your bog standard Italian basics. Their fresh, homemade pasta will change your life. Does unbelievably good 2ft long homemade breadsticks (which you will eat all by yourself before your dinner guests arrive) as well as tasty foccacia and other olive oil laden breads. To round it all off, they stock a mean range of nicely priced Italian wines with a shed load of scrummy chiantis. Take a ticket as you enter (only needed if it's busy, which it can be at weekends) and have a nosey around as you wait to be called. One of the nicest San Francisco queues to be in.

Yep, this probably is the best Italian deli in the city. Pros: - They do sandwiches REAL Italian style, with nothing on them but meat (and FRESH mozzarella, if you are so inclined). Just like in Italy, the meats and breads here are fantastic, so you don't generally need anything else. They'll give you mustard packets on the side if you want them, too. Wanna try something special? Get a spec (smoked prosciutto) sandwich on a soft sour roll with fresh mozzarella, and a couple mustard packets. - Easy access to imported sliced meats, including spec and others! - Great fresh sausages and salame. - They have Chinotto, which should be everyone's favorite Italian soft drink. - Fernet is always $19.98 a bottle here. *Ki-i-ick* *ass*. - The guys in here really know their shit. - They have posters of Carnevale from my home town (Viareggio). Cons: - Their homemade salads and frittatas are hit-or-miss. Three bean or calamari salad GOOD. Frittata not so good. - Man, I wish they were open on Sunday.

First of all, this place has a great selection of Italian meats and cheeses. That means lots of cured meats (Prosciutto! Salami! Pancetta! Guanciale!), and nice salty cheeses (Pecorino! Parmigiano! Reggiano!). I have tried many a salumi plate at local restaurants and find that most of the more expensive salumi out there doesn't even measure up to the stuff at Lucca. Secondly, they also offer lots of well-priced imported goods, like pastas, sauces, and random stuff in jars that are otherwise hard to find. I've seen clams, capers, olives, you name it, they got it. They also have a good selection of wine, with a focus on reasonably priced Italian ones. I found a pretty good Barolo for $34, which is a great deal. Lucca manages to pack a lot of stuff into their tiny store, but that makes it all the more fun, because you are finding new things around every turn, and on every shelf. It gets a bit crowded, and don't even try going there to stock up right before christmas, but the guys behind the counter are always friendly and good-natured. This place is definitely a winner in my book. Only downside is that they're not open on Sundays, and sometimes I forget to get in there on Saturday.

My Noni (Great Grandmother) used to make homemade ravioli every weekend when I was growing up. We ate platters of the stuff. She could never really sit down and enjoy her dinner because she was so busy churning out the ravioli! She passed away when I was 9. The recipe got handed down to my Grandmother, and she took over the task. I actually used to help her make the ravioli on her kitchen table. Flour was flying everywhere! She is now 87, and can't make them anymore. I could spend hours making home made ravs, but would rather just go to Lucca.

You never have to get your meat where you get your bread ever again, not that it's even possible at Rainbow anyway (no pun intended). Lucca's customer service is impeccable. Their salamis and sausages are top-notch (try the wine-flavored salami) -- I don't know if their meats are sustainably raised but that takes a backseat to the service and the top-drawer quality of this local business. Their fetucinni is like $2.98 a lb., go figure! Such a deal and so fresh, 1 lb. is enough to make 1 person half a dozen meals. They've got great Italian wine and olive oil, some nice cheese, and amazing, amazing MEAT.

This place hold such a fond spot in my memory. My mom used to make special trips over here to by us ravioli which was gone almost the instant it came into the house. Now when I come back to the city, I too make a spcial trip across town to buy fresh ravioli here. This is as god as it gets.

I've had the fresh "holiday turkey" ravioli with their pesto sauce, plus the sausage pan pizza and the frittata. Delicious. The box of ravioli feeds two (or one very hearty appetite). Friendly, helpful staff (even gave me pointers on how to "stretch" the pesto sauce).

Solid spot for picking up the necessities for my lady to recreate the tastes from her mother country, and much more accessible via MUNI than a trek to North Beach from our place. As many have griped, the hours run a tad parallel to those of working folk, making Saturday at Lucca (the only day you can realistically go) wall to wall. I'd make an analogy about it being like a club on Saturday night, but outside of establishing that it's crowded, the remaining comparisons would tank. Also, I don't know where they get their bresaola from, but I notice that it's got an awful tendency to dry out very, very quickly. AG Ferrari doesn't have this problem. Otherwise, great ravioli, good selection of products, such as caperberries and very specific pastas. Again, for my girlfriend, it gets the job done (she was delighted at their pannetone/pandoro selections), so that makes it great in my book.

    (4)
  • Larry B.

5 stars for not only having bresaola, but never giving me the deer in the headlights look when I ask for it! Dynamite sandwiches, all kinds of yummies from the motherland, parking if you drive....oh, and did you know they have ravioli? :)

Love this place and have been a customer since 1983. Same old dudes there and excellent food. Also a parking lot! Yummy raviolis, pesto, selection of Italian meats and cheeses and good array of Italian products, olive oil, cookies, etc.

While my ravioli was good, it was not mind-blowing like Celantano's of Newark, NJ, the standard to which I hold all of my ravioli. The spinach was not as good as the cheese. Also, I found it frustrating to have to take a number and wait forever if I wasn't buying cold cuts. Alas, this policy meant I left with a lot more food than anticipated, but none of it had directions, as in, "Boil pasta for (blank) minutes" How was I to know if the meatballs had been previously cut? Probably by cutting into them, which is what I did. That said, I will likely be back for several reasons: they are open relatively late during the week, they have free parking, and Lucca's sells pastina, a tiny pasta that when mixed with milk and butter, is the only thing that will make me feel better when I am sick and I have not found it elsewhere in the Bay Area.

I would like to point out three things about Lucca: 1) Lucca closes at 6:00 - run home to buy what you want or don't buy it. 2) Lucca is way, way over priced. 3) Lucca has amazing fresh Parmesan cheese and their meat selection is authentic and delicious. So really, I come to a draw. Shop at Lucca, wait in line, enjoy the best parmesan cheese ever. Or don't shop there and devolve into a person who has no Parmesan cheese on their pasta.

    (4)
  • Anita C.

F yea! The tortellinis is delicious, so is the sauce and cheese. Haven't had the time to eat the ravioli yet, but trust me i will. UPDATE: Had the ravioli...very yum. The parm cheese was way salty. i think the sauce is the best part.

  • Katrina D.

Oh mustachioed roly-poly man in the paper hat, you are so cute I could just eat you up like a little gnocchi! One walks in and feels instantly comforted by the sepia-toned family vibe. Packages of panettonne, bread sticks, and sun-dried tomatoes press together on the pantry shelves. Take a number, order a box of fresh ravioli, made within the hour, choose between red sauce or white (the latter recommended with Gorgonzola), and grab a bottle of wine. Dinner will be ready in 5 minutes. My favorite Lucca Ravioli moment was when I asked the cuddly man if there was a minimum amount of speck* I had to get. He shouts, "No minimum orders at Lucca Ravioli! You want it, we slice it at Lucca Ravioli!" with a car salesman, sing-songy emphasis on "LUC-ca RA-violi." It would've sounded swell on the radio. *A divine combination: thinly sliced speck wrapped around fresh figs.

It's hard to find an inexpensive meal in the mission that isn't a burrito. Enter Lucca (and Mr. Pickles, but that is another review). In addition to fresh pastas, sauces, and raviolis, you can go up to their deli counter and order a sandwich made of whatever slab of meat you see. They offer you several choices of breads. My first time there, I was worried that the only topping they had for the meat was pesto. Surely my sandwich would be dry and boring! But the meat is so moist and high-quality, that pesto, bread, and meat are still one of my favorite meals. The Lucca folks are flexible within their means too. One time, there was this awesome loaf of tomato-sauce-covered focaccia behind the counter window. I asked if I could get that as part of a sandwich. They said they had to sell me a half loaf, at least, but they took a quarter of that focaccia loaf and made me a turkey sandwich that was the bastard child of Thanksgiving and pizza.

Good. Not great. Ravioli was good. Sausage was very good. Sauce got the job done. I grew up with an Italian grandma so I rarely rate any Italian eateries above 3. I'm difficult to impress.

This is San Franciscan Old school Italian at it's best. Just went back for the first time in a long time and brought along three locals who'd never been there before. How could I forget how delicious and cheap their sandwiches are? Sopressa salami and provolone on a sweet roll never tasted so good! Picked up their seasonal pumpkin raviolis for dinner too! Lunch and dinner came to a whopping $11- a great value for quality stuff. Buon appetito!

My friend got catered trays from here... meatballs, pasta, salad, etc. The meatballs were large, not fist size, but it came close. It was very good. I think I had a few. The pasta was good too, I couldn't have done a better job, although I would have liked more cheese.

The Molinari's of the Mission. Too bad they are closed all the time. This is the best pasta you will find. And every time you shop there for pasta, you will find one or two other Italian treats to take home. Stop in while you're waiting in the brunch line at Boogaloo's across the street.

The best Italian deli in San Francisco! I'm half Italian so a visit to Lucca's takes me back to childhood. All of the food is excellent and the homemade ravioli is da bomb! They have many items from the "homeland" and the staff is attentive and knowledgeable. Its no wonder this place is always busy. Better than anything in North Beach!

I love the Lucca! This was an almost daily lunch spot a few years back. The deli is so good!!! On a down note, I will say I got sick after a suspicious calamari salad (which I can't bring myself to order again), and the biscotti was not as toasted as it should be, and I expect not twice-baked. Otherwise, a great deli for food to go, or ingredients for home later. The Lucca men are the bomb and give excellent service. FYI -- it's a hot spot so be prepared to wait during peak hours (take a number near the door).

Review Update Alert ; 12/24/06 Hey, I just realized that I could grandfather Lucca into my list of Corner Stores. They sell booze, beer, wine, soup, foodstuffs, sodas and other fine things, often at wholesale. My favorite place to buy Lillet from a guy in a paper hat. Plus they are a Store, on a Corner and the men who work here are members of a Union! Yayo! Original Lucca Review; 06/23/06 It's Lucca Ravioli Company. Try the special ravioli for Mother's Day, Easter, Christmas or similar. While Lucca's meat and cheese raviolis are awesome, they trot out a turkey and egg ravioli around holidays. Inexpensive and mostly drinkable wine selection for The Mission. Spicy peppers stuffed with proscuitto or salame and feta. A gigantic and incredibly salty homemade pickle for 45 cents. For a buck-fifty, a delicious snack-sized, wine cured pepperoni called a landjaeger. A jumbo sandwich (meat AND cheese) for about five bucks. Mayo and mustard ala carte. A Dr. Pepper in a bottle. Cheese wonderland. Housemade meatballs contain veal. Sad, delicious veal. Dry cured beef, which is basically the proscuitto of beef. Fancy.

I love going to Lucca. I like everything about this place because I always know my beloved Nutella will be there, and I know that I'll always find frozen ravioli, fresh pasta, meats, cheeses, candy, meat sauce, wine, pesto, espresso makers, breads, biscottis, jams (fig.) Lucca also does catering. Lasagna is a must. 03/17/2007 edit: I tried their ready to eat tiramisu and was like @%#$!!!

I''ve been coming here for YEARS. It's close to my house and the next best thing to North Beach. Great fresh pasta, breads, deli meats and cheeses, and Italian imports. The guys behind the counter are friendly, fast, and informative. Next time you don't feel like cooking, swing by Lucca and grab a box of their fresh ravioli and homemade bolognese. Don't forget the bottle of Chianti or Prosecco! Salute!

  • Jason M.

I love this shop! The guys at the counter are great, and willing to help with their expertise. The smell in the neighborhood when they are cooking sauce makes my mouth water, and I love walking by the window to the room where they make the pasta on-site (everything in the room is coated in a thick layer of flour). The reason for only four stars is because weekends are a madhouse, and it's difficult to find anything with the crowd of people waiting to get an order in. It's not unheard of to pick a number, only to find that you're a good 15 people behind.

We bought trays of pasta, meatballs, artichokes, and salads for a party from Lucca's. The meatballs were very tasty (meaty flavor) and the artichokes were surprisingly tasty (not overcooked at all). They were exactly on time and recommended when we should pick the food up so it would still be hot when we served it. I wasn't a huge fan of the salad... there was nothing wrong with it but I'm just not a huge salad fan. They carried many different kinds of olive oil. I liked that they carried the large cans which is much more economical than the small bottles you find in the big supermarkets. Their salame was thin sliced and tasty. I can't think of anything that I didn't like about it. They even have parking. I've been told that their ravioli is excellent. You can buy it frozen.

I'd give them more stars if I could. Absolute best mushroom marinara I have EVER had. I drive way out of my way for the marinara as well as their ravioli. The guys that work there are wonderful: friendly, quick and knowledgeable. Only complaint I have is that they're not closer to where I live but I can deal with that.

Wonderful Raviolis and sauces. It is well worth the trip here for fresh made raviolis to share with your guests. They will rave as mine have.

Terrific place! I grew up on Lucca raviolis as a kid, and their frozen sauces. How grateful I was to find that they are just down the block! And where else can you easily find bottles of ros, or my personal favorite, Norton Malbec? And the counter guys? Well, let's just say that eye candy is just a bonus.

Okay, let's start with the only bad thing about this place: the lines. They tend to be a bit on the long side of things on Saturday afternoons, something easily remedied by coming during off hours (before 5 on weekdays, and before 11 on Saturdays). Although all is forgiven because of their own free parking lot right next door. If you do adjust your drop-in time, you'll be readily impressed by the vast array of sliced meats, oh-so scrumptious foccaccia, and cheap base materials for your foray into Italian cuisine (everything from the olive oil to the wine is better -- and sometimes slightly cheaper -- than even Trader Joe's, which is saying a lot...). Plus you get the added bonus of great service and superb selection. The prosciutto you choose should be strictly Danieli (not the Canadian knock-off). And if you go with anyone under the age of 10, the kindly staff will regale them with free breadsticks. Oh, and the ravioli are fantastic!

I only wish I'd shopped here more while I lived nearby.

Let me say, the only reason I'm rating it so low is that the lines are absurdly long. The funny part is that one can go to a place like Sorrento's Delicatessen in the Excelsior district, get the same quality of food - but you can get attended to almost as soon as you walk through the door. Most of the time, none of the long lines that are a regular feature of Lucca's.

Not only can you find those elusive tiny Italian New Year's lentils here (they stock a gourmet brand from Umbria which my dinner guests raved over) but the counter guys will even give you tips on how to cook the goods once you get them home. My family has shopped here since the 60's and we agree it's one of those SF institutions that makes the city such a delicious place to live. A quick trip here on NYE saved me endless hours in line at Safeway and Trader Joe's for specialty items (gruyere, pancetta, parmigiano reggiano, heavy cream, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo) that I probably wouldn't have found anyway. Their ravioli and handmade fettucine are great too.

There is a light that glows inside of me when I enter, pass or even think about this place. First and foremost the selection and quality of product is exceptional. From fresh pasta, cheese, bread, and meats; even the wine cariety is good for the space allotted. Overall, considering the small space, the variety of everything is impressive. In addition, the staff knows their business, there is a side-hatch view from the sidewalk of the Ravioli production, the prices are fair, and they have the cheapest Fernet in the city ($19!). I long for the day when they will know me well, and when I enter they will welcome me with a hearty whisper in each others ear: 'Hey, that humorless prick is back, again.'

This place is great. My other favorite city is New York, and Lucca gives a little slice of how a good deli should be run and stocked. The guys behind the counter are all friendly and helpful, with ready advice and suggestions. I have wandered in here with a vague idea of a menu for a dinner party and with great confidence in my ideas, and gone on to make highly complimented meals. Good cheese selection, yummy wines and great pasta and meats.

The pasta is great, and the torpedos are yummy, they also have various tasty smoked, dried and salted pig of top quality, but you already knew that. The extra bit is that they have Valencia's best lunch/dinner deal -- 1/2 a pan of mushroom pizza for about $5. It's like 2 -3 meals right there and it's good cold. Also nice quality cheese at a fair price - hard to find around Valencia.

I love coming in here if there is parking I love the Raviolis I have been coming in here since the 80's and the only thing that has changed is the prices

I did buy the pumpkin ravioli, and they were excellent. But what put me over the edge was being able to buy salt-packed anchovies by quantity instead of having to pick up a gigantic tin. I used to do this in Hoboken, they were in every deli (along with fresh store-made mozzarella, but I haven't seen that here) and I got used to having them regularly. Cooked them up tonight after the skin and fillet routine, with olive oil, tons of garlic and capers, some good spaghetti and yummy! Food orgasm in every bite.

Great ravioli. They make these bite size ravioli with different fillings - found in the back freezer. Spinach, pumpkin, cheese. You have to ask for the meat ones if there are none in the freezer. A box is about $6, and feeds maybe 1 very hungry person. There's tortellini & pasta in the front deli area about $8/lb. All very good. Yum, can't wait to get back there for more! It gets quite crowded on the weekends, so go early and be patient.

Well it's not like this place needs another review but I just couldn't resist. Today was my first day inside Lucca's. I have always either driven past this place or walked by Sundays (when it's closed) so I never knew what I was missing. OMG this place is great. Fresh raviolis, all the nice temptations in the deli counter, WINE! and of course the friendly staff. I was a little overwhelmed with the crowd, but they keep things moving efficiently if you grab a number. I'll get to know the routine better once I start going here more frequently.

Yum-ola! A regular Saturday stop on the shopping route. Getcher numbah and while yer waiting gather up your other foodie needs - pasta, olive oil, italian cookies, wine, crazy little imported olives/crackers/breads/stuff you never heard of but you must have. Once your number is called step up smartly to the counter and let one of the genial guys behind the counter know what you need. Favorites: the ravioli and homemade pasta (natch), the prosciutto, sausage, cambozola - just about any of the cheeses, stuffed cherry peppers (a cherry bomb), tiramisu. I always walk out of this place with a big grin and can't wait to eat everything as soon as I get home.

Ever since I read about this Italian delicatessen in Patricia Unterman's "SF Food Lover's Guide", i've been wanting to check it out. It's been in business in the neighborhood for over 70 years and by seeing the place and what they provide, you'll know why. Once you step through the door you'll encounter their deli case that stretches across the shop, filled with an amazing cheese, meat & food assortment. They have a great selection of reasonably priced, house made ravioli, tortellini and huge squares of pizza - all perfect for taking home for a quick, tasty dinner. The store also stocks food and wine imported from Italy. On my visit, i picked up the meat-filled tortellini and pizza, which were fantastic. This is a great destination for an Italian food lover!

I love this store! It has such great stuff and the raviolis are very good! I can find all of the hard to find items when I'm making antipasto for a party. Parking is easy, which is huge sometimes in the Mission. The staff is very knowledgable and friendly. They are always busy which is a good sign right?

BEST HOMEMADE RAVIOLIS HANDSDOWN! This place is great SF staple period. My family has been going there forever and we even ship ravioli and sausage north to our Portland,OR family. Yeah their selection isn't the best but their deli is the shit.

"How 'bout a little mortadella, some hot copa, and a bit of fennel salame on a soft roll with some pesto?" "Yes, please." Nice selection of wines and international goodies. Still exploring the other offerings. Watch out for those candies with the booze in 'em- that's real booze son. Friendliest service in town.

Great meats! Great Ravioli's! Great Service! I have been coming to this store since I was a kid and I still drive into the Mission to buy my meat here.

I always pick up one of their awesome no nonsense sandwiches (meat cheese and bread) before taking a flight out of SFO or before going to a Giants game at Phone Booth Park. Did I mention that they also are famous for their fresh raviolis?

A cool little Italian deli right smack in the middle of the Mission. Great ravioli, Prosciutto, Italian wines and a real New York kind of feel. Even the dudes behind the counter remind me of the east coast. Maybe not as authentic as NY but close..

If you're hungry for a gourmet sandwich with a heaping side of pretension, then check out the Lucca's on Chestnut St. They should be able to take care of you there. On the other hand, Lucca's on Valencia is the place to be if you're looking for fresh Italian meats and cheeses without all the fuss. The guys there are both pleasant and patient. Hmm, imagine that. The San Daniele prosciutto is fabulous. Sweet and salty all at the same time. I can eat a pound of it by myself. The Sopresseta salami is also pretty good. Overall though, everything that I've tried from the deli case is delicious. I've found that the quality of meats is a little better at this location. Another thing that makes the Lucca's on Valencia one of the best deli's around? A parking lot a few doors down. How awesome is that?

Lucca is an Italian deli in the true old-school tradition. It reminds me of the deli where my grandmother used to take me after church on Sundays to buy sausages and big balls of imported provolone wrapped in waxed twine. Ah, and the little boxes of lemon-almond nougat candy! I walk past Lucca on the way to work every morning, and there are times when the smells wafting out the air vents practically bring me to my knees. They have a great selection of wines, many very reasonably priced. (The Cristalino sparkling wine @ $7.99 a bottle is an unbeatable bargain.) Often their sales beat even Trader Joe's prices, and usually for products far superior in quality to those sold at TJ's. Yes, it can get very, very crowded, but that's part of the charm. Besides, the friendly, helpful staff always thank you for waiting. My only complaint about Lucca -- I wish they were open on Sundays!!!
